Something You Photos | Grit and Gold | Ellen Ashton Photography | Fort Worth Wedding Photographer

I am SO excited to share with everyone the featured wedding vendor of the week!

As some of you already know, I have been meeting with, photographing and interviewing wedding professionals in the DFW area and blogging about the assets behind the businesses.

This weeks amazing wedding vendor is non other then the fabulous girls at "Something You"!

Shannon and Chantee are some the the funniest hair and make up artist you will ever meet.

Shannon is the owner of Something You and Chantee is her right hand woman. Together these lady bosses rock it out!

I so enjoyed meeting with these two at their cozy studio at the Grit and Gold Collective space.

We laughed, talked business and took some amazingly fun and sassy pictures. I absolutely adore people who love to have a good time and enjoy themselves and these girls for sure know how to do that!

You will love working with Something You! They will bring the perfect balance to those glittery wedding day nerves and make you feel 100% at ease on your wedding day. They are obviously fun, down to earth and yet very professional all at the same time. Above all, they are great at what they do and make their brides feel and look amazing! Who wouldn't want that?!

Something You not only offers outstanding hair and make up services for brides and their entourage, but they also offer super fun classes call Bing Your Own Beautiful. BYOB is custom tailored classes to fit every bride or non brides needs. These classes would make an awesome girls night out! Click HERE to read more about BYOB classes.

Now that you know a little bit about Something You, Let's get to know the owner, Shannon!

Meet Shannon!

Ellen Ashton: Why did you start your business?

Shannon: I had been in Corporate America for what seemed like forever and the bottom fell out of my industry. I'd always been a freelance artist but I'd never had the guts to go out there and make it a career.  Turns out, you get guts when you don't have a choice! It was hard to admit to myself that I should have been pursuing this the whole time.

Ellen Ashton: How did your first client find you?
Shannon: As with most things in my life, through a series of happy accidents. She turned out to be one of the best marketing sources ever because she understood the 'art of the referral' and the importance of word-of-mouth.  That was 20 years ago and she STILL sends people my way for all things BEAUTY.

Ellen Ashton: Do you service Dallas, Fort Worth or both?
Shannon: BOTH! And all points in between.  If you need us, we'll be there!

Ellen Ashton: How do you survive the wedding day?
Shannon: The promise of wine.  And a ridiculously supportive team that takes care of each other as we all get the job done.  And really good arch supports. And also wine.

Ellen Ashton: What is your favorite 2016 wedding trend?
Shannon: My favorite 'trend' has been the return to elegance. A more natural & authentic appearance that stands the test of time. It always made me so sad to see girls with flashback from "baking" their undereye area or brows that look like they were applied with a blunt Sharpie. To look at a bride's pictures and see gorgeous, glowing skin and well executed makeup and hair really makes me happy!

Ellen Ashton: What is the best makeup to photograph?
Shannon: Good makeup, plain and simple.  There are a lot of right ways to enhance someone's beauty but not everyone is trained on how to see it & make it happen.  I encourage my clients & colleagues to educate themselves on what quality makeup artists use, what questions to ask (products, hygiene/sanitation, education, experience, etc) and what it should cost (not $50).  You really do get what you pay for.

Ellen Ashton: Kim, Kourtney or Khloe?

Shannon: If Khloe & Kourtney somehow merged...maybe.  Anyone but Kimye.

Ellen Ashton: Red or white wine?
Shannon: red

Meet Chantee!

Ellen Ashton: Why did you start your business?

Chantee:I started in retail cosmetics in college, 1998. I didn't look at makeup as a career, but a hobby. I went into the corporate world of property management and stayed there until I became a stay at home mom. When the time came for me to find something I loved to do, makeup was the natural choice. This time around I was fortunate enough to have the ability to freelance full time, and I'm loving every minute of it!

Ellen Ashton: How did your first client find you?
Chantee: I was networking in a Facebook group and Shannon found me, from there I joined her bridal team in 2013

Ellen Ashton: Do you service Dallas, Fort Worth or both?
Chantee: BOTH! And all points in between.  If you need us, we'll be there!

Ellen Ashton: How do you survive the wedding day?
Chantee: Knowing that it is the most important day of their lives lets us all be a little more forgiving of the stress that can sometimes happen. For the most part we are very fortunate to have incredible brides, we manage to dodge the (and I hate this term) 'bridezillas'

Ellen Ashton: What is your favorite 2016 wedding trend?
Chantee: Im really loving the easy esthetic, the requests from clients to 'look like themselves', and the clean, natural pallets

Ellen Ashton: What is the best makeup to photograph?
Chantee: Makeup that plays up dimension and looks like you in the very best lighting. Soft shadows, subtle highlights and flushed coloring.

Ellen Ashton: Kim, Kourtney or Khloe?

Chantee: Kourtney. She's always just SO over it, haha

Ellen Ashton: Red or white wine?
Chantee: Champagne.
